Town of Hector Actions related to Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation

The following is a description of the actions that the Town of Hector has undertaken as part of its sustainability efforts from 2020 until present.

Energy Actions

  • Adopted a Unified Solar Permit process
  • Code Enforcement Officer took Energy Code Enforcement Training
  • All Town streetlights were converted to LED lights
  • Established the Benchmarking process for Town Building
  • Successfully completed two Community Campaigns
    - Clean Heating and Coolign Campaign
    - Community Solar Campaign
  • Accomplished a 10% reduction in energy usage by signing up with the Solar Energy Company, Ampion.

Community Programs

  • Established a policy for recycle bins in all Town Buildings
  • Established a Recycling and Composting Center
  • Started a Reuse program (Free Swap Meet) in conjunction with Dumpster Day

  • Completed a Government Operations GHG Inventory
  • Adopted a Hazard Mitigation Plan for 2021-2026
  • Completed the Natural Resources Inventory
  • Completed a Climate Vulnerability Assessment
  • Completed a Study of the Riparian Buffers in the Town
  • Developed a Climate Change Education and Engagement Strategy for the Town
  • Set up a Website and Facebook Page to educate the public regarding climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.
